Dear Diary,
Planning a daytime itinerary for Las Vegas is usually a bust. If you partied right, you’re probably spending your day sleeping (or trying to survive from a hangover), shopping, gambling or partying some more. If you manage to balance your night and are ready to explore, I found a few fun things to do during the day.
Zip lining at the Rio Hotel.
Soaring 41 floors high at 33mph between a hotel buildings, you’re guaranteed to feel the adrenaline rush. Zip lining may sound like the typical rainforest adventure, but when you’re strapped in with nothing but a seat belt, looking over people splashing in a pool, it’s a different experience. This is a great alternative for something to do in the daytime other than going to parties, gambling or shopping. Tickets were $27 for adults (check groupon for discounts). Keep in mind, going at night makes a beautiful view but prices are nearly doubled. I would highly recommend everyone to visit on his or her trip. Bonus: you get to ride with one other person!
Rides at the Stratosphere hotel
The stratosphere is located at the end of the strip. We stayed here on our first visit to Las Vegas and would I stay here again? Probably not! The hotel was great, but when you book a hotel that’s ‘less expensive’ you have to take in consideration you’ll have to pay more for transportation. At the end of the day it almost evens out, but the best part about staying at the Stratosphere is you get a discount on the rides. There are 3 rides: Insanity, X-Scream and Big Shot. These rides aren’t for the faint hearted. Adrenaline rushes through your body as your standing 109 stories up. Two of the rides plunge you over the edge and you can see the skyline below (that’s if you take the time to stop screaming and open your eyes). The needle like figure at the top is the Big Shot and that shoots you even higher up in the air. The catch: most rides will take you to the top then drop you like a free fall, well this one operates in reverse, absolutely exhilarating!
Slotzilla at Freemont
If you’re looking to zipline or zoomline (superman style) for fun without the heart-racing thrill, this is the place to do it. You will be launched from what looks like a giant slot machine and you will zoom over thousands of people shopping below. Okay so your heart might skip a few beats, but it’s a beautiful view on the way to the other side. Prices for the zipline start around $20 and $40 for the zoomline (the zoomline is higher). While you’re at freemont, there are plenty of places to shop and dine at. And don’t forget to take a picture by the famous Las Vegas sign.
The High Roller
At 550 feet tall, the High Roller at the Linq is a great attraction if you want to see the entire strip. I heard it is among one of the largest in the world. Luckily we went during a time where it wasn’t so busy, because they can place up to 40 people in each pod. In my opinion, this is just one of those things you do to say you did it. It is the ultimate “date” for couples. I was bored out of my mind after going around a few times lol but it was so cute for photos, so yes I did it for the gram! It is also great to ride at night so you can see the strip lit up. Tickets start at about $20 if you check out different website promos.
Above are the only activities I have managed to do (due to one of the circumstances listed previously-sleeping as my favorite lol). There are a ton of other things to do such as party some more, visit the Hershey’s Chocolate World, Indoor Skydiving, ride the Big Apple Coaster, and the extensive list of museums.
What is your favorite daytime activity in Las Vegas?
