Dear Diary,
Every time I go on a trip, someone tells me to bring a souvenir back. Why? Why do YOU want a souvenir from a place you’ve never been? Do you want it so you can flex like you’ve been there? What do you say when someone asks you how that place was? Do you want one of those shirts that says “my friend went to xyz and bought me this shirt”? I’m so confused. A souvenir is supposed to be a symbol of an experience. But anyways, when people ask me to buy a souvenir my first thought is to get them something from my list of “souvenirs you should never buy”. #Shrugs I really don’t know what to get. Kids outgrow most things so I don’t see a point in buying someone else’s kid clothes or anything (maybe a toy is feasible but they also won’t even care if you bought anything at all). I would also spend hours trying to find the perfect gift, only to find out I spent so much time choosing shot glasses for a person that doesn’t even drink. Or worse, buying a shirt that doesn’t fit. It’s unfortunate that people don’t really send post cards anymore to brag saying ‘wish you were here’ but I guess that’s what instagram is for lol. I am now at the point where when people ask me to get them a souvenir I smile and sarcastically just say “it’ll be so much better if you buy a plane ticket and get one yourself”.
I’m curious, what do you do with random souvenirs other people give you?
