Are you all out of ideas on what to buy for someone who likes to travel? Or are you a traveler and don’t know what to ask for during the holidays or your birthday? Here are common gifts every newbie/beginner traveler needs but usually hates to buy because they rather use money on a plane ticket.
Tip: Make sure to monogram as much as possible, the more personalized, the better.
Universal charger- lets face it, every traveler NEEDS one and dreads the thought of having to pay for it. “I can use that money for something else” –thoughts of every traveler when it comes to necessities we can’t avoid.
Portable charger-not the common $5 cute colorful charger you find in the front of the line at the store! I’m talking about a charger that will charge your phone when you’re leaving your hotel room for an entire day. Your traveler would love you for gifting them with the best of the best power banks that will charge all of their devices at once & won’t die in 8 minutes.
Packing cubes-Help your traveler maximize luggage space & keep their luggage organized. Packing cubes come in a variety of sizes and serve for multiple uses. Once you start using packing cubes, you’ll never stop. You can find these online or in you’re your local stores like Marshalls.
Headphones-Basic headphones are cool until your stuck next to a crying baby. Guaranteed every traveler will need noise reduction headphones to drown out all of the extra noises on a plane.
Travel size gift set of their favorite perfume/cologne. Again, one of those things travelers would appreciate but won’t pay for themselves.
Globe/map– you can help you loved ones remember their destinations with a map or globe. Remember the more personalized the better! There are maps where you can scratch off each destination that you’ve been to, or canvas globes & maps where you can stick a pin in all the places you’ve been.
Hidden flask– this is the ultimate gift for the spring breakers and festivals crew. You can go to Spencer’s (or look online) and find flask that look like suntan lotion or tampons. You will never have to worry about throwing your alcohol away at security lines anymore and this will help save tons of money. It won’t work in TSA but you can save it for when you arrive to your destination.
Phone lens clips-Smartphone cameras now take photos just like a professional camera. Buying phone clip lens will enhance photos and save you money from buying an actual camera. Also perfect for the times you don’t want to carry a camera around.
Tablet/kindle-sometimes those long flights entertainment centers just aren’t enough & road trips eventually turn dull when there’s nothing around. Having a tablet or kindle provides that extra entertainment you need! You can download tons of books or games and you can also save space and work from home without having to carry an oversized laptop around.
Passport covers– every beginner traveler has this weird obsession with getting passport covers! They want to keep it “fresh” and can’t help but post a picture of their plane ticket with a passport (even if they are staying in the states). Personalizing a passport cover is a thoughtful gift and they will appreciate it in the long run.
Apparel –All travelers love anything with a map on it or some type of travel quote: adventure awaits, wanderlust, let’s explore, catch flights not feelings etc. Most travelers love their photos reposted on Instagram, and one of the easiest ways would be to buy apparel from brands that repost photos with their logo on it. You can gift apparel from www.hardlyhome.com www.blackandabroad.com www.locsandluggage.com www.melaninmajority.com etc.
Waterproof phone pouch-Not a typical gift idea, but a waterproof pouch sure does come in handy more than you think. You can wear it when it rains, during foam or paint parties (Carnival or Holi) and not only can you wear it in the pool but you can save it from sand at the beach. It’s also essential when you’re simply not wearing pockets or a bag and you have to carry your phone around.
Map
Clearly every traveler needs a map! An experienced traveler is guaranteed to have more than one map in their homes. My personal favorite is a scratch off map. It starts as one color, and as you visit a new destination, you scratch it off and reveal a new color underneath. The more you travel, the more your map comes to life. I was gifted this one from amazon for just $9.99. You can find it on amazon here

And last but not least, (I didn’t think I would really have to add this) but if you know a traveler without a passport, GIFT IT! That is the one gift that keeps on giving!
I hope this list helps make your gift giving experience more pleasant. Once your traveler has all of the basic travel necessities, check out my next post on gifts for the expert traveler.
