Dear Diary,
Are you ready for Irish whisky and green beer? There are so many reasons you should visit Savannah for St. Patrick’s Day; Good vibes, perfect weather, amazing food-I mean the list can go on and on. For most, this is just a quick road trip away. Nonetheless, it’s a mini vacation experience that is guaranteed to go down in the books. If you’ve never been on a road trip here’s your chance! Beyond the parade, you’ll fall in love with Savannah’s Historic District and the cobble stone streets all around. Read on to see 7 things you must do when you visit Savannah.
001. Get festive with your outfit
You will feel completely out of place if you show up without any green on. I’m not saying go overboard with complete costumes, but some type of green shirt or hat will do the job. The more festive you get, the more you’ll feel that 0.00001% Irish come out of your blood line. I’ve seen men dye their beards green and women dress like leprechauns. Do what makes you feel lucky.
002. Kiss a man in uniform
During the parade, it’s tradition for women to run in the street and kiss military men. So what does this mean? It means you better grab the brightest lipstick you have and pucker up. Now days, women are getting kissed too sooooo men you better find a nice color & pucker up too. The brighter/crazier the lipstick, the better.
003. Get cited
If you’re out being badd (yes with 2 d’s), your guaranteed to get a sexy citation by the Keystone cops. While the real cops are out looking for drunks, these cops are warning people that they are just too hot for the streets to handle.
004. Slap the Bag like a pro
You’ll find patrons walking around with bags filled with wine from boxed wine. How do you play? As someone is holding the bag over your head, open the stopper and chug as much wine as possible-and I mean chug until you can’t chug no more lol. Once you’re done chugging, close the stopper and slap the bag. Don’t be a wimp, SLAP IT like you’re a proud professional wine chugger.
obviously not my gif.
005. Visit the green fountain at Forsyth Park
Starting a few years ago, they have started dying all of the fountains green. Make sure you snag a photo with the emerald colored water-if you don’t, we’re gonna say you didn’t visit savannah.
006. Party on River Street
Need I say more! This is the livest St. Patrick’s Day party you will experience. It’s a bunch of people all ages just looking to have a great time. #Liveyourbestlife Make sure you buy a wristband so you are permitted to consume alcohol outside.
007. Eat Eat & Eat
Savannah is filled with restaurants to die for. You might’ve heard of many of their restaurants including ‘Paula Deen’s Creek House Seafood & Grill’, or ‘Debi’s the Restaurant’-which is a popular restaurant in the Forrest Gump movie. If you plan to eat at a restaurant, make sure to make reservations because lines are ridiculously long. Whether you eat on the street or at food trucks (especially the lobster roll truck) you’ll love all the southern cuisines prepared for you.
Please remember to drink responsibly & DON’T drink & drive!
Where’s your favorite place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?
Ok, so this looks like it was lit. I don’t know about kissing strangers tho!! hahah hope you enjoyed
